Adele – 30 (Track By Track Review)

Adele is back! The long awaited album, “30”, will be available on streaming platforms and in stores tomorrow! I’d personally give this album 8/10 stars.

As someone that wasn’t very impressed by 25, I was a little hesitant about getting into 30. However, I must say that I’m thoroughly impressed by this body of work and it was definitely worth the wait. The album starts out with an alternative vibe, gets a little upbeat and ends with the powerhouse ballads. Overall I would say she has really strengthened her vocals and is showing a more honest side of herself. Let’s get into the songs…

Strangers By Nature – a simple melody. Not very attention grabbing but more of a soft introduction to the album

Easy On Me

My Little Love – a song dedicated to her son. Includes voice memos from conversations with her son as well as what seems to be personal messages of her struggles with her crying about being lonely and anxiety.  “I’m holding on, mama’s got a lot to learn”.

Cry Your Heart Out – A guide to getting over someone and moving on. More of an uptempo beat than usually expected by Adele. “Cry your heart out, clean your face, when you’re in doubt, go at your own pace”.

Oh My God – Another mid tempo bop. The intricate vocal stylings in the chorus are perfectly placed.

Can I Get It – The guitar sets the tone of a country smash. When the beat drops, it’s reminiscent of “Rolling In The Deep”. The song is taking you on a journey that’s describqingly based in Country but has a dash of Alternative and 80s/90s Pop. This song deserves a nasty little Texas style line dance and a jeans commercial placement.

I Drink Wine – A typical Adele song. It’s a very self aware song. Something that is very representative of the 30 year old crowd who is finally becoming themself and accepting themselves for who they are.

All Night Parking – If I had to be honest, I would call this SZA-esque. With a little more vocal range. It’s simple but beautiful. It gets very jazzy as she sings “I dream about you, all night long.

Woman Like Me – A song about loving a broken person who is having trouble realizing the good woman in front of them. Tells the story of a woman, ready to walk away from a situation where she is being under valued and disrespected.

Hold On – Strong Piano intro. Vulnerable vocals. I would call this the album’s big ballad moment. A very stripped, acoustic song. You can literally hear the pain in her voice. The song builds into a big finish with a gospel choir on the chorus. Reminiscent of Adele’s fav song of her own, “One And Only”.

To Be Loved – Another big ballad. Nothing but Adele and the piano. This song will definitely be belted by singers, although with Adele’s vocals seem to be a bit strained at some parts, it just seems very heartfelt.

Love Is A Game – Think 60s. An ode to the R&B/Soul of Motown. I could really see this being a song Diana Ross and the Supremes would have topped the charts with. “Love is a game for fools to play. And I aint fooling. What a cruel thing to self inflict that pain

“Super Freaky Girl” gets moved to the Pop Categories at the Grammys… And Nicki “isn’t mad”

According to TheHollywoodReporter,

Minaj originally submitted the track — which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart in August — to the rap categories at the Grammys, but the decision was overturned by the Recording Academy’s rap committee, according to a source. That group determined that Minaj’s playful and pop-sounding song sampling Rick James’ 1981 classic “Super Freak” should compete for best pop solo performance instead of rap awards.

TheHollywoodreporter

In my honest opinion, this was the right move! The song was produced by a Pop producer and it was also promoted as a Pop song. This isn’t an attack on Nicki Minaj, as it has happened across all genres. Some of the more notable people to have this happen would be Kacey Musgraves, The Weeknd, Iggy Azalea, Lil Nas X and so many more.

However, Nicki took to twitter to share her thoughts, per usual:

At this time, Big Energy by Latto, hasn’t been announced which category it will be in. It will likely be in the running for the same Pop awards, based on the fact that Dr. Luke also produced it and the Remix featured Mariah Carey’s rendition of Fantasy, which was also nominated in the Pop category.

Aaron Fresh Premieres ‘ Tabanca ‘

Published

R&B showstopper Aaron Fresh has come a long way from when he was first introduced to the word back in 2010. The former Teen heartthrob made a huge splash with his Def Jam debut singles ‘Spending All My Time’ & ‘Dirty Girl’ which was in heavy rotation across BET, MTV, VH1 & Nickelodeon.  The Trini native was truly born to do this and as a kid watching some of his idols like Michael Jackson, Usher , Chris Brown & Machel Montano was all the inspiration he ever truly needed. When Aaron hit the stage his electrifying performances compared him to the greats the came before him which is exactly why Nick Cannon and so many others saw the star power in him. In no time he was co-hosting ‘The Night Life’ alongside Nick on Nickelodeon where the also gave him the opportunity to become a special celebrity correspondent on Teen Nick. It was clear that his star was steady on the rise, but as label politics changed his time at Def Jam was over, but that only fueled him to continue his success as an indie artist. Over the years he’s also found success as a songwriter working with K-Pop stars EXO and NU’EST which kept him fulfilled, but his fans were ready for him to return to music. Now he’s back and better than ever with the release of his latest single ‘Tabanca’ as he teamed up with Ronnie Young Jr and Micky Monday on the track. The buzz worthy single is just the re-introduction he needed to show the world his new and refreshing sound. Watch the accompanying video for the track which is only just a taste of so much more in store.
