Yesterday, Amazon released the long awaited film, “Without Remorse“.
A little background about this movie. Plans to shoot this movie started back in the 90s. Some of the biggest action movie heavy hitters have been attached to this movie in some way shape or form. People like Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, and Gary Sinise. For years, nothing happened with this movie, until 2012 when Tom Hardy and Kevin Costner were tied to the movie. Then in 2018 Michael B. Jordan was announced as the lead role, and would star in a two part series, Without Remorse and Rainbow Six. The film was shot from October 2019 – October 2020. Due to the pandemic there were breaks in filming of course.
Now about the movie! I’ll say this movie, for me, was refreshing. Does Hollywood have any idea how tired people are of all these black lead movies revolving around racism and slavery? Like yeah, we get it, there are stories to be told, and they should be. But every once in a while, we do enjoy just seeing shit get blown the fuck up! We showed out in record breaking numbers to see Black Panther, because for once it was just great black cinema that doesn’t remind us of the world we live in every day. Coincidentally, Michael B Jordan was in there too.
Although, Michael did a great job acting, the movie is still pretty bland overall. It’s more of a feel good, something to look at type of movie, and less of a blockbuster. In other words, if I had to pay to see this in the theaters, I’m not sure I would be ok with giving them my money. Being that it’s on streaming services, I am ok with it, although I do believe it would have done good in the box office. I just think the material was a little predictable and
I must also note that I was really happy to see Jodie Turner-Smith. It took me a minute to realize why she seemed so familiar, then in one random frame it hit me… that’s “Queen” from Queen & Slim. This melanin and dynamic between the two characters just did something for me.
Overall, I’d give the movie a 3.5/5. The storyline wasn’t too exciting, but the acting was giving what it was supposed to have gave. And #JusticeForLaurenLondon, she never gets the screen time she deserves.
Drake Withdraws From The Grammys
Well well, it looks like Drake has chosen to not have his music nominated for Grammys. According to PopCrave, there isn’t any word on why he has made this decision to have his 2 nominations removed.
From my perspective, being that the news broke today, the last day of voting, he may have got the feeling that he wasn’t going to win. Drake dragged this album out over the whole year, only for the album to produce mid level songs. Did it make Billboard history? Sure. But was the quality of music up to par with today’s hottest rap music? Not even close.
Nice beats, and catchy rhymes can only get you so far in the Rap industry. Even the GOATs had to change up their formula after a while, and I think it’s about time for Drake to do the same.
RNU Records has you ‘Covered’ with Anisa Fowler’s new soul stirring single
Joshua Arnoux is man who wears many hats, Husband , Father , Songwriter, Producer and Entreprenuer so it only makes sense that he would take things up a notch with the launch of his label RNU Records. As a young kid growing up in NYC, music was truly apart of his everyday life being surrounded by a musical family. Singing in church with his family is where he honed his craft as a singer/songwriter which also lead him to join an r&b group with some neighborhood friends where he was really able to showcase another side of his gift. As teachers caught on to his gift they recommended that he attend a performing arts school , so of course it only made sense that he would end up being accepted into the most popular one LaGuardia High School. It was there where Josh truly began to flourish as classically trained singer which allowed him to learn different genres of music and vocal techniques which ultimately helped him as an all around musician. His now artist Anisa was a classmate of his at time and eventually became part of a group called ‘Gods Plan’ who would years later split up after a failed record deal. His passion for music opened doors for him not just as a performer , but as a musician and songwriter where he spent countless hours in the studio at Daddy’s House which was Diddy’s infamous studio where the best of the best came together to create.
Within time Joshua’s dreams of being an artist started to fade but his love for the art of producing and writing never stopped as he teamed up with Anisa once again to work with her on her first solo single ‘You Reign‘, which has made so many waves in Gospel music and is continuing to open up doors for both of them as they made an impact on many after successful showcase during this years Stellar Awards weekend. The love and support from their peers only helped them to put more time and focus into her long awaited EP which is highly in anticipation from Anisa’s growing fanbase. Now with the release of her single ‘Covered’, it’s clear that RNU Records is ready to take its place in the world of Gospel music and stand out in every way. Joshua clearly watched some of his inspirations like Kirk Franklin and Donald Lawrence , which helped him to take control of his own destiny and make major moves which will solidify him as one to watch.
