Sony/ATV Music Publishing has signed a worldwide deal with Cardi B, the company announced today. She recently made history with her lead single, “Bodak Yellow”, when it became the longest running solo female rap song to hold the #1 spot Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Cardi B said: “Oooo, I’m so happy to be with my new family Sony/ATV. ‘Bodak Yellow’ is only the beginning and we’re just getting started.”
Sony/ATV Co-President, U.S. Rick Krim said: “As ‘Bodak Yellow’ has already demonstrated, Cardi B is one of a rare breed of unique artists who the industry only witnesses occasionally. We are honored that Sony/ATV will get to work with this special talent who is not just impacting music but pop culture as well.” Senior Director, A&R Jennifer Drake added: “Cardi B is honest, real and refreshing and has the confidence to say exactly what she is thinking and feeling. It’s tangible and you can connect to that.”
If you aren’t familiar with Cardi, she is the new kid on the block, but she is definately striking while the iron is hot. While many doubted her, including me, she made it to the top of the charts. Before the chart success she was a staple on the VH1 reality TV show, Love & Hip Hop New York, where she really brought life back to the weakest extension of the franchise. Cardi is quick witted, honest, and funny…..and always ready to fight! Last December, Cardi decided to leave the show and pursue her career, as she signed a deal with Atlantic Records, the same label that signed Love & Hip Hop’s K. Michelle! Sounds like a smart move, get in, get out, and get that money!
What can I say except, Go BIH! You did it, you doin it, and I’m enjoying watching your success! You made me shut my fat ass up, because I never seen Bodak Yellow being as big as it is! I been seeing some of these photo shoots too, I wouldn’t be surprised if a modeling deal is close behind. Not sure about the big endorsements tho, with her ill temper, she might be a liablity….but I’ve also noticed a kinder, sweeter side of her lately.
