Album Review: Chance The Rapper – The Big Day

With the album coming out late on Friday, he is still predicted to debut at #1 with about 110k-125k first week. Chance’s “Hot Shower” is leading on the streaming platforms, sitting Top 5 at Apple Music and holding the #7 spot at Spotify. This is actually sad, and a reflection of today’s poor taste in music. Out of all the great music on Chance’s album, the general perfect picked the one song where he dumbs down his lyrical content to match today’s mediocre rap styles of DaBaby.

It’s been some time since I’ve blogged, but to be honest, there hasn’t been much that has caught my attention lately.

But this Chance album has GOT ME!

Chance has released his debut album and it was well worth the wait. Filled with top notch features, melodies, and most importantly REAL RAP! It is so very refreshing to hear an album that celebrates what the everyday man can really appreciate. He talks about rededicating his life to God, finding true love with his wife, loving his brother, and more. These topics are so different than your everyday rapper now.

Other features on the album was the quite impressive Nicki Minaj. With not 1 but 2 verses on the album, she offered up some of the best verses that she has had in years. There are many songs that provide the long missing R&B vibes of the 90s, some provided by legendary divas SWV and En Vogue. Megan The Stallion‘s feature on “Handsome” was a surprise, and like “Hot Shower“, it wasn’t too impressive. Her bars are very amateur and repetitive. I’m anxiously awaiting the day that she elevates her skillset and has the lyrical content that matches her flow.

Overall this is an impressive body of work, and I look forward to see how it fairs at the Grammys. It’s very deserving of more Grammys.

    Adele is coming…

Adele took to her social media outlets earlier today to announce that her new single, “Easy On Me“, will be released next week.

As big as Adele is, it be foolish to say nobody cares, but one thing that always has baffled me is why do we get over hyped for blue eyed soul? Don’t get me wrong, Adele has made so much great music in the past. Her body of work is solid and stands alone. She has earned her spot. But as black people, why do we give blue eyed soul such a high praise, but in return have a hard time promoting and supporting our own people, the originators of this sound?

Please don’t get me wrong, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying the music of the blue eyed soul singers like Adele, Sam Smith, and Justin Timberlake. I just hope that the original soul singers can get that kind of love and respect as well.

    Moe Isaac Premiere’s ‘ The Fader ‘ ( EP)

Critically acclaimed singer/songwriter Moe Isaac is finally ready to release his long awaited third project ‘The Fader‘ which has truly been a long time coming. The R&B crooner born and raised in NYC is clearly no stranger to doing this on his own terms so it only makes sense that he continues to push his eclectic blend of Hip Hip and R&B to the masses which ultimately sets him apart from the rest. The classically trained LaGuardia High School alumni definitely put in the work over the past two decades from winning amateur night at the Apollo three times while in a group and selling sold out shows as a solo act as he searched for the right place to land his debut project. He ultimately decided to release his 2009 project ‘This Ain’t R&B‘ independently to critical acclaim which solidified him as once to watch but then it would be awhile before his growing fanbase would hear another project from him. In 2017 he released his next EP ‘ Love on A Spaceship ‘ which showed major growth in his sound and production style as listeners gravitated toward the new Moe Isaac, but once again the entrepreneur took another hiatus from music as he proved to be a rockstar in the IT world as well. Now although he didn’t release any projects since then, his passion for his craft never left him as he continued to figure out who Moe Isaac truly was as a singer/performer and now he’s back to give the world just a preview of what can we expect from his highly anticipated album. For now get into his new 4 track EP ‘The Fader‘ as he gives us a glimpse into the world of Moe Isaac below.
